Plus-size football jersey: from XXL to 4XL

Supporter ร  la carrure large portant un maillot de foot ample dans lโ€™entrรฉe de son appartement avant de sortir

Finding a plus-size soccer jersey is easy, as long as you know one simple rule: the cut matters more than the label. At Elite Fanstore, replica jerseys go up to 4XL, measuring 61 to 63 cm across the chest when laid flat, and some items go up to 5XL.

When ordering online with a broad build, the problem is that two jerseys labeled XXL can be almost nothing alike. A 2XL in the player version fits like an L, while a 2XL retro fits like a 4XL. Without these reference points, you hesitate, get it wrong, and sometimes end up giving up on getting your club's jersey.

This guide covers the sizes actually available for each type of item, how to measure, an interactive tool that converts your measurement into a size, and a selection of styles up to 4XL. The measurements come from the store's size guides, and the available sizes are based on a catalog review carried out in October 2026.

In summary

For a broad build, go for the replica version, available up to 4XL, or a retro jersey, whose 2XL is as wide as a 4XL replica. The player version has a close fit and stops at 2XL.

  • Replica version: from S to 4XL, measuring 49 to 63 cm across the chest when laid flat. Nearly one in two 2026/27 replica jerseys goes up to 4XL.
  • Player version: only up to 2XL (53 to 56 cm), equivalent to an L or XL in a replica version.
  • Retro jersey: up to 2XL, but measuring 61 to 64 cm flat thanks to its straight cut.
  • Formula 1 polos and T-shirts: up to 5XL, or 66 cm measured flat, the largest size in the catalog.
  • Lay a jersey that fits you well flat, measure from one seam to the other under the sleeves, then compare your measurement with the size charts in this article.

The short answer

What is the largest size available for a soccer jersey?

A replica soccer jersey is available up to 4XL, which means 61 to 63 cm across the chest when measured flat, and a length of 81 to 83 cm. At the time of writing, more than 600 products in the store are available in this size, and nearly one in two replica jerseys from the 2026/27 season (166 styles out of 344) go up to this size.

Not all products follow the same rule, though. Each product category has its own maximum size, which is often what causes confusion: you find your clubโ€™s jersey in 4XL in one version, then discover that the player version or matching tracksuit stops two sizes lower. The table below summarizes what we found.

Maximum size by garment type, based on the storeโ€™s size guides and catalog review (October 2026)
Garment Max size Flat width (upper value) Good to know
Fan jersey 4XL 63 cm About half of the 2026/27 models
Goalkeeper jersey 4XL 63 cm Half of the models
Long-sleeve jersey 2XL or 4XL 59 or 63 cm Around twenty models in 4XL
Player version jersey 2XL 56 cm Slim fit, no exceptions
Retro jersey 2XL 64 cm Straight fit, runs large
Rugby jersey 3XL 62 cm Almost all models
F1 polo shirt and T-shirt 5XL 66 cm The largest size in the catalog
NBA jersey 2XL 67 cm Advertised chest measurement: 134 cm
Tracksuit, jacket, shorts 2XL 58 cm (top) No 3XL as of yet

Two takeaways emerge. The fan version is your best bet: it offers the widest choice of clubs and the largest football jersey sizes. And the maximum size alone isnโ€™t enough to compare: a retro jersey that โ€œonly goes up to 2XLโ€ is as wide as a 4XL fan version.

The label trap

XXL, 3XL, 4XL: why the label isnโ€™t enough

Letโ€™s clear up one point first: XXL and 2XL refer to exactly the same size, just like XXXL and 3XL, or XXXXL and 4XL. Only the way theyโ€™re written differs from one product listing to another. The real difference is in the fit. The same size label doesnโ€™t correspond to the same measurements depending on whether the jersey is designed for a fan, a professional player, or based on a vintage model.

  • The fan version has a comfortable fit designed for everyday wear. It falls straight and leaves room around the chest and stomach.
  • The player version has the fit worn on the field: slim and close-fitting, with thinner fabric. It runs significantly smaller.
  • The retro jersey replicates the straight, loose fit of jerseys from the past. It runs larger than the fan version.

The result: even with the same label, thereโ€™s an 8 cm difference in flat width between a player-fit 2XL (53 to 56 cm) and a retro 2XL (61 to 64 cm). Around the full circumference of the jersey, thatโ€™s a 16 cm difference, equivalent to four sizes in the fan version.

A XXL means nothing unless you know the fit.

In practice, never order โ€œyour usual sizeโ€ without checking the fit. If you wear a 3XL in the fan version, forget the player version, but a retro XL will fit you. Conversely, a retro 2XL will be loose on someone who wears a fan 2XL. Only measuring it flat lets you compare.

Practical guide

How to measure your size if you have a large build

The most reliable method requires neither a fitting room nor complicated calculations: a tape measure, a jersey or sports T-shirt that fits you well, and two minutes to compare its measurements with the size guide.

1
Choose your reference item

Choose a jersey or sports T-shirt with a fit you like, neither too tight nor too loose. Use it as your reference, not the size on the label.

2
Lay it flat

Lay it on a table or bed, front side down, without stretching the fabric. Simply smooth out the wrinkles by hand.

3
Measure the chest width

Measure from one side seam to the other, about 2 cm below the armholes. This is the โ€œchestโ€ measurement in the storeโ€™s size guides.

4
Measure the length

Start at the highest point of the shoulder, next to the collar, and measure down to the bottom of the garment. For reference, a 4XL fan jersey measures 81 to 83 cm.

5
Compare with some room to spare

The guides allow for a tolerance of 2 to 4 cm. If your measurement falls between two sizes, choose the larger one for an everyday jersey.

What if you donโ€™t have a reference jersey?

Measure your chest directly, horizontally, under your arms, while breathing normally. Take half of that measurement and add 2 to 4 cm of ease: this gives you the flat width to look for in the chart. For example, with a 118 cm chest measurement, half is 59 cm; add 2 to 4 cm and you get 61 to 63 cm, which corresponds to a 4XL in the fan version or a retro 2XL.

Abdomen, shoulders, and length

Chest width isnโ€™t everything. If your waist measurement is larger than your chest measurement, also measure your reference shirt at the navel: most supporter shirts have a fairly straight cut, so the measurement at the bottom should guide your choice. The same goes for shoulders: with a broad build, a slim fit quickly pulls at the seams, which is why the supporter version or retro style is worth considering.

Length is the other factor. If youโ€™re tall rather than broad, itโ€™s what matters: a shirt thatโ€™s too short rides up as soon as you raise your arms to celebrate a goal. Look for a length that covers your waistband; retro shirts are actually the longest football shirts, measuring 81 to 84 cm in 2XL.

Good to know

The full method, including the most common measuring mistakes, is explained in our guide to finding your football shirt size. The reference charts are all in the storeโ€™s football size guide.

What size should you choose for your chest width?

Choose the range below that matches the flat width of your reference shirt, or half your chest measurement plus 2 to 4 cm. LThe tool gives you the size to order in each fit, along with a style to check out first.

Youโ€™re at the lower end of the plus sizes: the whole catalog is still open to you, including the player version in 2XL if you like a shirt that hugs your torso. For everyday comfort, stick with the supporter version in XL, such as the 2026/27 Arsenal home shirt.

This is where the player version falls short: its 2XL maxes out at 56 cm. The 2XL supporter version will fit you perfectly, and a 2XL track top (58 cm across the chest) is also an option. For a retro shirt, go for an XL, such as the 1990 Italy home retro shirt.

The 3XL supporter fit is your size. Not all styles offer it: check the size list on the product page before you buy. The season's biggest clubs often offer it, like the 2026/27 Juventus home shirt. Tracksuits, however, are limited to 2XL and may be tight.

You're right at the largest size in the supporter version. Good news: the 2XL retro fit works for you too, giving you access to hundreds of vintage shirts. An example of a current-season 4XL shirt: the 2026/27 Manchester United home shirt.

Above 63 cm, the 4XL supporter fit becomes snug: it is still wearable if you like a close-fitting shirt, thanks to the 2 to 4 cm tolerance stated in the size guide. The 2XL retro fit, which goes up to 64 cm, offers a little more room. For a real margin, Formula 1 polos in 5XL reach 66 cm, like the 2026 black Mercedes F1 polo.

Above 66 cm, no football shirt in the catalog offers any room. Two options remain: 5XL in Formula 1 polos, and the very roomy NBA jerseys, whose 2XL has a 134 cm chest, or 67 cm flat. If in doubt, send us your measurements: we'll point you to the right styles.

Player version

Player version: why it stops at 2XL

None of the storeโ€™s player versions go above 2XL: this is true of more than six hundred models reviewed in October 2026. Itโ€™s not a question of stock, but of fit.

The player version is the jersey worn on the field by professionals: a slim fit, tailored across the chest and waist, with a thinner, lighter fabric. Designed for athletic builds, its 2XL has the same width as an L or XL in the supporter version.

Player version2XL: 53 to 56 cmSlim, close-fitting cut, 76 to 79 cm long. This is the largest size in the range.
Supporter versionL or XL: 53 to 57 cmThe same width, with a straight cut and more room around the stomach.

In practice, if you wear 2XL or larger in the supporter version, the player version wonโ€™t fit you, even if you take โ€œone size upโ€ as the guide recommends: that size doesnโ€™t exist. If youโ€™re deciding between the two versions for other reasons, our comparison of the supporter and player versions covers all the differences.

Warning

The storeโ€™s guide describes the player version as a โ€œslim, close-fitting cutโ€ and recommends sizing up if youโ€™re unsure. For a larger build, that option disappears beyond 2XL: choose the supporter version.

Retro jerseys

Retro jerseys, a great fit for larger builds

Hereโ€™s the surprise in this guide: retro football jerseys donโ€™t go above 2XL, yet they fit larger builds very well. True to the original designs, they have a straight, generous fit, like jerseys from the 1980s and 1990s, and are much looser than todayโ€™s.

The numbers speak for themselves: a retro 2XL measures 61 to 64 cm across when laid flat, compared with 61 to 63 cm for a supporter 4XL. In other words, if you wear 4XL in a current-season jersey, you can order a retro 2XL. And if you wear 3XL, the retro XL, at 58 to 61 cm, will probably be your size.

You wear 2XLRetro L or XLSupporter 2XL: 57 to 59 cm. Retro L: 56 to 58 cm, retro XL: 58 to 61 cm.

You wear 4XLRetro 2XLFan 4XL: 61 to 63 cm. Retro 2XL: 61 to 64 cm.

Another advantage is the length: 81 to 84 cm in 2XL, enough to cover your waistband. The one thing to keep in mind is the fit: the straight cut hangs more casually than a modern jersey. Thatโ€™s the charm of retro; for a more structured silhouette, choose the fan version.

For an idea of whatโ€™s available, here are some classics in 2XL: the 1993 OM home retro jersey, from the season of their European triumph, the 1996 France team retro jersey, the 1993/1994 AC Milan retro jersey, and the 2002 Brazil retro jersey, from their fifth World Cup win. Beyond jerseys

F1 polos, long sleeves and tracksuits: how far do other items go?

Maximum sizes vary considerably from one type of item to another. Hereโ€™s what you need to know before completing your outfit.

Formula 1 polos and T-shirts: up to 5XL

Theyโ€™re the champions of extended sizes: almost all team polos and T-shirts go up to 5XL, with a 66 cm chest width, an 85 cm length and 50.5 cm sleeves. Whether theyโ€™re from Ferrari, Mercedes, McLaren or Red Bull, they have a classic fit thatโ€™s easy to wear every day. Youโ€™ll find them in our Formula 1 section.

Long-sleeve shirts and goalkeeper jerseys

Most long-sleeve jerseys stop at 2XL (166 of the 203 models in our survey), but around twenty go up to 4XL, such as the Liverpool third long-sleeve jersey 2026/27. For goalkeeper jerseys, half go up to 4XL: a good option if youโ€™re in goal on Sundays.

Rugby: up to 3XL

Almost all the rugby jerseys in the store go up to 3XL, with a 62 cm chest measurement when laid flat and a length of 81 cm. Their sturdy, hard-wearing cut gives them a different fit from a football jersey: our guide to choosing a rugby jersey size explains these differences.

NBA, tracksuits, shorts: up to 2XL

NBA jerseys, tracksuits, jackets, shorts, and training kits stop at 2XL. For NBA jerseys, which have a very loose fit, thatโ€™s not a drawback: their 2XL size indicates a 134 cm chest measurement. The 2XL tracksuit, however, measures 58 cm across the chest when laid flat, so it may be a tight fit if you wear over a 2XL supporter jersey. The same applies to football shorts: the 2XL, with a waist width of 37 cm, is listed for weights up to around 110 kg according to our guide.

Matching set

If you wear a 3XL or 4XL, donโ€™t count on your club tracksuit to complete the outfit: it stops at 2XL. Instead, pair your jersey with neutral joggers or jeans from your wardrobe.

How to wear and customize a plus-size jersey

A well-chosen jersey looks just as stylish in 4XL as in M. Just a few pointers will help it fit right, whatever your body type.

Tip 012 to 4 cm of roomNeither tight nor baggy: an oversized jersey adds bulk rather than taking it away.
Tip 02The right lengthThe bottom of the jersey should cover your waistband and end around the top of your hips.
Tip 03Vertical linesStripes and center bands define the torso and elongate the silhouette.

Choosing patterns and colors

No color is off-limits: wear your clubโ€™s colors. If you want to define your silhouette, vertical lines, such as Barรงaโ€™s stripes or PSG and OLโ€™s center stripe, elongate the torso, while dark shades, like the navy blue of OMโ€™s away kit, create a understated look. As for the neckline, a V-neck or polo collar opens up the neck.

What to wear it with

Raw denim or straight-leg pants, clean sneakers: let the jersey be the centerpiece. Wear it over your pants; itโ€™s designed that way. In winter, an unzipped jacket works really well if itโ€™s roomy enough, as the jackets in the store only go up to 2XL.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Going two sizes up โ€œto be safe.โ€ The fan version is already comfortable: ordering a 4XL instead of a 3XL will leave it loose and add bulk.
  • Ordering the player version in your usual size. It runs much smaller and only goes up to 2XL.
  • Relying on your usual T-shirt size. Fashion brands use different sizing standards: only flat measurements allow for comparison.
  • Forgetting the length. A jersey thatโ€™s wide enough but too short rides up as soon as you raise your arms.
  • Ignoring the fit allowance. Size guides allow for 2 to 4 cm: if youโ€™re at the upper limit of a size, choose the next one up.

Printing on an oversized jersey

On a plus XL jersey, the back offers more space: a chance to have a long name printed without it looking cramped. On the product page, choose a player from the seasonโ€™s squad or create your own printing, including a name and number. For inspiration, see our ideas for names and numbers to print and the page explaining how to customize your jersey. To make the printing last, wash the jersey inside out at 30 ยฐC and air-dry it.

Frequently asked questions

What is the largest football jersey size available?

The fan version goes up to 4XL, with a flat chest width of 61 to 63 cm. Formula 1 polos and T-shirts go up to 5XL, measuring 66 cm flat. Player versions, retro jerseys, tracksuits, and shorts are only available up to 2XL.

What chest measurement does a 4XL jersey fit?

A fan 4XL measures 61 to 63 cm wide flat, equivalent to a jersey circumference of 122 to 126 cm. Allowing 4 to 8 cm of ease, it is generally suitable for a chest measurement of around 114 to 122 cm.

Is the player version available in 3XL or 4XL?

No, none of the storeโ€™s player versions go beyond 2XL. This close-fitting 2XL measures 53 to 56 cm flat, equivalent to an L or an XL in the fan version.

Do retro jerseys run large?

Yes. Retro jerseys replicate the straight cut of the original models: a retro 2XL measures 61 to 64 cm flat, the same as a fan 4XL. Theyโ€™re only available up to 2XL, but this 2XL fits a broad build.

Should I size up if my waist measurement is larger than my chest measurement?

Measure the width at navel level on a jersey that fits you, then compare it with the chest width in the guide, since most fan jerseys have a fairly straight cut. If your measurement is 2 cm or more above the upper limit for a size, choose the next size up.

Are the tracksuits and shorts available in plus sizes?

The tracksuits, jackets, shorts, and training kits in the store are available up to 2XL, equivalent to a flat chest width of 58 cm for a tracksuit top and a waist width of 37 cm for shorts. For larger sizes, choose a fan jersey in 3XL or 4XL, or a Formula 1 polo that goes up to 5XL.

The right jersey is available in your size

With a broad build, finding a football jersey is no problem: the fan version goes up to 4XL, the retro version in 2XL fits the same builds, and Formula 1 polos go up to 5XL. Just remember one rule: measure a jersey that fits you, compare its flat width with the guide, and ignore the label. Your plus-size football jersey is waiting for you.
