The method for reattaching: step by step
This method is suitable for jerseys made of technical polyester, which represents almost all modern football jerseys. The polyester temperature limit (160°C) is lower than cotton’s: extra caution with heat is essential.
Lay the jersey flat on a stable surface, flocking side up. Make sure the area around the lifting is clean and perfectly dry. If the jersey has just been washed, wait until it is completely dry before working: any moisture will prevent the adhesive from reactivating properly.
Gently reposition the lifted edges exactly. To hold the edges in place during pressing, you can use high-temperature tape. Never use standard Scotch: it would leave glue residues that imprint on the fabric with heat.
Place a sheet of parchment paper (or a Teflon sheet if you have one) over the entire area to be treated. The flocking must be completely covered. Never place the iron directly on the flocking, even briefly.
This is the critical step. Set the iron to a maximum of 130°C (lower than the 150°C recommended for cotton: technical polyester melts above that). Never use steam. Press with firm and continuous pressure for 20 to 25 seconds with circular movements covering the entire area. Do not move the jersey during pressing.
Remove the iron. Wait 10 seconds before removing the parchment paper. Let cool completely before touching the flocking, at least 2 minutes. Then gently test the edges when cold. If the result is insufficient, do one additional pass only. Do not multiply hot passes on the same area.
Mistakes that worsen the problem

Creates unsightly halos, hardens the fabric around the flocking, and does not withstand washing. Textile glue is not designed for the heat-sensitive adhesives of flex flocking. Never use on a football jersey.
Melting polyester fibers is irreversible. It leaves a shiny mark or a permanent translucent area on the fabric. Impossible to repair. That’s why parchment paper and the 130°C limit are non-negotiable.
At the heat of the iron, standard tape melts and leaves glue residues that permanently imprint on the fabric. If you need to hold edges in place, use only high-temperature tape.
Cold pulling on a peeled edge accelerates detachment on adjacent still solid areas. If you want to test the strength, do so only after reglueing and complete cooling, with light finger pressure, never by pulling.
Dust or detergent residues on the adhesive prevent re-adhesion. The area must be impeccably clean and dry before pressing, otherwise the adhesive will not reactivate properly.
When reglueing is no longer enough: reprinting
If your printing is peeling, has come off more than half of its surface, or is cracking in places, reglueing is a temporary solution. The adhesive is dead: it will come off again after 2 or 3 washes, no matter the method used.
