Why has Yamaha blue become one of the most recognisable colours on the circuits? Because for decades it has been worn by some of the greatest riders in history. Wearing a Yamaha jersey means joining a tribe of enthusiasts who can spot a YZR-M1 at first glance.
The brand is one of the pillars of the grid presented in the MotoGP jersey collection, up against the other Japanese and European manufacturers. Here, everything is dedicated to Yamaha Racing.
From tuning forks to the track
The three tuning forks in the logo recall the group’s musical origins: it was founded at the end of the 19th century to make instruments. The motorcycle branch, Yamaha Motor, was born in 1955 with the YA-1, a 125cc nicknamed “Akatombo”, the red dragonfly. Twenty years later, Giacomo Agostini gave the brand its first title in the premier class.
A record written in blue
- 1975: Agostini wins Yamaha’s first 500cc title.
- 1978 to 1980: Kenny Roberts claims three crowns in a row, in the famous yellow and black livery.
- 1990 to 1992: Wayne Rainey completes a hat-trick of his own.
- 2004 to 2009: Valentino Rossi joins the brand, wins his very first race with it and takes four titles.
- 2010 to 2015: Jorge Lorenzo adds three more championships.
- 2021: Fabio Quartararo becomes the first French world champion in the premier class.
What you will find in the collection
For race days as well as everyday life, the range comes in three families. Yamaha jackets range from lightweight models to track-style leather jackets; Yamaha caps work at the circuit and in town alike; and Yamaha T-shirts remain the simplest way to show your colours.
A great champion always needs a rival to match. For years, that role was played by the other Japanese giant: the duels between Rossi and the Honda riders are among the finest chapters of the championship.
